De mens, het duurde maar heel even
BRONKS
In a whirlwind duet between mankind and their surroundings, the 200,000-year history of our species on earth is recounted. From the discovery of fire to the extinction of this dominant animal: everything is revealed in this tragicomical, visual performance full of inventive theatre tricks and unexpected twists. On a classic proscenium stage with diorama-like sets, two actors play the earth: they let birds fly, waves crash and mountains grow. The third player – man – tries to get a grip on that world. But the greater their urge for control, the more things go wrong. A tree trunk breaks in half, a fall through the mountainous landscape takes half the set with it, and not even the velvet theatre curtain remains unscathed. What follows is an inevitable chain reaction of failure – both hilarious and moving. After their Om de hoek woont een struik and Er rent een berg voorbij, this performance is the last part of Plankton’s triptych about the relation between mankind and nature. With playful humour, the soloing human is knocked off his pedestal and returned to the ensemble.A comical, confronting and visual spectacle with live piano, for anyone from 8 years old.
