Sonic Hug

With Sonic Hug, festival artist Louise van den Heuvel deliberately dove her own spot in the fields of Belgian music a couple of years ago and amazed right away with her beautiful singing and unique compositions. The band’s self-titled first album (April 2024, W.E.R.F. Records) was acclaimed internationally and listed amongst the ‘Best Jazz albums of 2024’ of both De Standaard and Knack Focus. In 2027, Louise van den Heuvel will be transforming the former quartet into a freshly built quintet, uniting major figures from the latest Belgian jazz waves while adding unconventionally tuned guitars and flutes for an even more otherworldly yet always grasping atmosphere. Their new songs are characterised by a clear narrative, both musically and lyrically, and a bigger emotional load, with concepts such as growing older and finding a fitting place in society. The concert at Brussels Jazz Festival will be the avant premiere of new music, to be released later on a second full album.
