One of the most iconic figures in the history of jazz, a composer of genius and, despite a wholly unique style, a true high priest of bebop, Thelonious “Sphere” Monk continues to fascinate nearly 45 years after his passing. With around 70 compositions to his name, most of which have become standards, Monk remains one of the great minds of jazz. This Sunday, Jason Weaver and his fellow musicians draw from this legacy to offer a performance that pays tribute to the inventiveness and elegance of one of the genre’s most brilliant spirits.
