Lucas Bakker Trio – A Tribute to the Saxophone Trio

Free entrance — 1 drink mandatory Saxophonist Lucas Bakker, winner of the Princess Christina Jazz Competition and the Dragon Jazz Contest, joins forces with his brother Kobe Bakker on drums and bassist Ramon van Merkenstein for a tribute to the legendary saxophone trios. Without a chordal instrument, relying solely on saxophone, bass and drums, they follow in the tradition of A Night at the Village Vanguard and the iconic trios of Joe Henderson and Ornette Coleman. With a program built around jazz standards, the trio explores what happens when three musicians are given complete freedom and responsibility within the music. The young saxophonist from Ghent combines virtuosic playing with a deep love for the jazz tradition, while Ramon and Kobe provide a dynamic, groove-driven foundation full of unexpected turns. An evening of interaction, improvisation, and the pure essence of jazz.
