For her carte blanche, saxophonist Elly Brouckmans is expanding her band Mania – featuring Yarno Hoedemaekers (piano), Toon Rumen (double bass) and Umberto Odone (drums) – with three unique voices (…) For her carte blanche, saxophonist Elly Brouckmans is expanding her band Mania – featuring Yarno Hoedemaekers (piano), Toon Rumen (double bass) and Umberto Odone (drums) – with three unique voices from the Brussels jazz scene. Following an introspective quest for harmony and timbre, she discovered the music of the French Impressionists last year. Inspired by their soundscape, she sought ways to weave this texture into her own musical language. The result is the expansion of her regular quartet to include vocalists Hsuan-Hui Fang, Marta Frigo and Caro Verheyen, who will perform together as a three-part choir. In this way, two seemingly disparate worlds meet, creating space for both contrast and fusion. The whole is christened The Sweet Suite : a musical arc consisting of impressionistic colours, playful rhythms and layered melodies. Expect the grooves and interplay of Mania, this time enveloped in a layer of tenderness.
