Tokyo, 1991. Mike Powell soars to break a record that has stood, unsurpassed, for thirty-five years. Nagano, 1998. Surya Bonaly performs a banned backflip, offering the audience a bold statement of resistance. Cleveland, 2014. Tamir Rice, aged 12, is shot dead by a white police officer in less than two seconds. One unstoppable movement. One forbidden movement. One shameful movement. Ces mouvements que je n’aurais jamais pu faire [These Movements I Never Could’ve Made] crosses time and bodies to call into question what our societies celebrate, condemn or erase. The documentary choreographic narrative unfolds in dialogue with dancers Arno Ferrera and Charles Ngombengombe, krump dancer Kenza Deba, poet Lisette Lombé and sound artist Rokia Bamba, as well as with the collaboration of Mike Powell, Surya Bonaly and Samaria Rice. Five solidarity tickets at €5 will be set aside for each performance of performing arts projects (with some exceptions). Please email reservation@halles.be Tokyo, 1991.
