A woman in her room. She’s decided to end it all. Her Opinel kitchen knife isn’t sharp enough, the Ikea mirror refuses to break, and the suicide hotline won’t answer. Death isn’t playing along that night. Around this starting point of gross failure, Carla Margarita Manrique builds a show that completely defies classification, simultaneously a lecture and a horror movie, a buffoonish personal testimony and an endoscopic journey. The subject of suicide is broached as a contentious issue that has been theorised on since antiquity, and presented through a deliberately unstable dramaturgy. Reflecting the constant oscillation between life and death experienced by those who contemplate it. A trained Circassian dancer, Carla Margarita Manrique suspends her body from fake intestines, re-enacting the absurd with precision. Her tool: humour. Not to evade, but to heal. “If I don't turn it into a joke, it will destroy me.” A way to stand proud and poised on a razor-thin line. Five solidarity tickets at €5 will be set aside for each performance of performing arts projects (with some exceptions). Please email reservation@halles.be A woman in her room.
