Moretti himself plays a film director struggling with his relationships and the production of his latest film. Il sol dell'avvenire jumps back and forth between the present and the past, and fantasy and reality. This Italian, bittersweet drama is beautifully crafted and one of Moretti’s most personal films to date. In Rome, at the legendary Cinecittà studios, filming has begun on Giovanni’s (Nanni Moretti) latest film. Whilst he has to keep his actors happy and direct circus elephants, Giovanni is also struggling to save his marriage to producer Paola (Margherita Buy). Politics, love and a colourful circus vie for his attention, both on set and off.
