Ciné Central - Soft Leaves

During Ciné Central, you can head to Van Meyelplein for three evenings of free open-air film screenings. On Wednesday, we’ll be screening *Soft Leaves* (Miwako Van Weyenberg, subtitles: Dutch & French). The bar opens at 8 pm, and the film starts at 9 pm. SOFT LEAVES Soft Leaves is Miwako Van Weyenberg’s moving and personal debut film. An intimate coming-of-age story of a Japanese-Belgian girl searching for identity and recognition. ‘A tender and solid debut feature celebrating resilience’ (Cineuropa) Yuna (Lill Berteloot) lives with her father Julien (Geert Van Rampelberg), a high jump coach with whom she gets on well. When Julien suffers a serious fall and ends up in hospital, Yuna is left to cope on her own with her older brother Kai. Their world is turned upside down when their Japanese mother and half-sister come to Belgium to look after them. Soft Leaves is bathed in carefully chosen warm colours and is carried by the strong performance of new talent Lill Berteloot. The film had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was selected for the Ostend Film Festival.
