Have you already heard about the Beguines, or rather, the early feminists? Or had you heard of Gabrielle Petit, a resistance fighter and spy who looked her executioner straight in the eye when she was executed? On Sunday September 13 we’ll cycle through Brussels from the city center to the Marolles. Guides from Bazaar Trottoir and Noms Peut-Être will share the stories of well-known and lesser-known Bruxelloises, while also giving a voice to today’s female role models. The bike tour will take us past streets named after women and street art, culminating in the festive reveal of a new mural in the heart of the Marolles, a tribute to and by the women of the neighborhood. Expect summery beats from DJ Bunmi, refreshing snacks, and entertainment for young (and old). By cycling together as a collective, we’re advocating for a city where women are visible, represented, and safe - both literally and figuratively. Practical information: • Sunday, September 13 • Everyone is welcome • Free (registration required) • Bike ride start: 2:00 p.m., across from Schuitenkaai 5 • Finish bike ride + mural unveiling and neighborhood party: 4:00 p.m., Pieremansstraat 57 • Bikes available • Route = approx. 5 km Will you join us?
