Here or there, to begin with

Lucien Lyon solo show in Brussels. The dream of adventure often begins in childhood. Maybe that’s what connects us most. ​ Our childhood soul, the most powerful, the most defining, the one that lifts us, that has known us from the very beginning, that has seen everything, felt everything, and remains the only one to truly understand us. It is through her that we learned to reason, to feel, to express. With it, we wandered through distant times and imagined places. ​ Lucien's soul left to venture alone to the mountain's peak. Facing countless adventures of graphic acculturation through various artistic influences, such as those of Don Rosa, Robert Moreau or Jean Giraud. ​ Though these worlds belong to another time, they remain close in spirit, echoing through his work. That early voice still follows him, guiding his hand. In his creations, traces of other illustrators appear, reimagined, reshaped. ​ Lucien paints and builds from materials that have lived a previous life, plaster, recycled wood, construction site remnants. The making unfolds through a multiconstructional process; physical, narrative and human. These choices are certainly far from accidental, but rather a careful arrangement of refined techniques, building layer by layer a single, profound discourse. Raw textures meet vivid colors and clear lines, sketching a space somewhere between the spontaneity of childhood and the structure of adult life. ​ To each their own adventure, but perhaps each work carries a small breeze of ourselves.
