The Maison de Saint Cyr, an Art Nouveau gem in the Squares district
Square Ambiorix 11, 1000 Brussels
An Art Nouveau gem in the Squares district, signed by Gustave Strauven. This extraordinary house is probably the most photographed Art Nouveau building in Brussels! Built in 1900 by the young Gustave Strauven for the painter and decorator Georges Léonard de Saint Cyr, it stands on a plot barely 4 metres wide and is a testament to the architect’s ingenuity in the ornamentation of its façades. Now restored, it features interior décor ranging from Flemish Neo-Renaissance to Art Nouveau, via the most eclectic of styles. A theatrical setting! The tour will take you through the semi-basement (former dining room), the main floor and the first floor. A portion of the tour fee will be donated by the owners to the non-profit organisation Le Petit vélo jaune, which provides support to parents in difficulty through a volunteer. Visitor rules: - photography inside the house is strictly prohibited; - stiletto heels are prohibited; - overshoes will be provided for visitors and must be worn; - no bulky bags; - no pets; - no toilets available for visitors.
